3、acetheorywasusedtoexplorestudents’reasoningandtofollowthechangeinstudents’cognitivestructures.Accordingtothephenomenographicanalysisoftheresponses,threemaincategories,‘unitsofmatter’,‘constituentsofatoms’and‘modelofatoms’,wereidentified.Connectionsbetwe
4、enthesecategoriesweredeterminedbyadaptingKnowledgeSpaceTheorytothehierarchyofcategories.Resultsshowedthatduringtheinstruction,theinitialuniformmodelforrepresentationofstudents’knowledgestructurebecamemorediffusebutattheendoftheinstructiontheorganisation
5、ofthecategoriesinstudents’mindscouldberepresentedagainbyasinglemodel.Intheinitialmodel,the‘unitsofmatter’categorywasindependentofthe‘constituentsofatoms’and‘modelofatoms’categories,andthe‘modelofatoms’categorywasbuiltonthecategory‘constituentsofatoms’.S
