2、rooklyn,NY11201,USAAbstract:Thispaperpresentsanoverviewoftherecentliteratureonflameretardancyofpolycarbonate(PC)andpolycarbonate-basedresins.AbriefsurveyofthemajormechanismsofthermaldecompositionofPCisalsopresentedbecauseitgivesinsightinthemechanismsofflameretard
3、antaction.MostlyindustriallaboratoriesareinvolvedinthedevelopmentofnewflameretardantsforPCand,toamuchlesserextent,academiclaboratoriesaredoingresearchonthemechanisticaspectsofflameretardancy.ThenumberofpatentspublishedannuallyontheflameretardancyofPCanditsblendssi
4、gnificantlyexceedsthenumberofpatentsonflameretardancyofanyotherpolymer.BecausePCisanaturallyhighcharringpolymer,thecondensedphaseactiveflameretardants,inparticularphosphorus-basedones,arewidelyusedinPC-basedblends.PlainPCcanpassstringentflameretardanttestswithveryl
