5、oinvestigatetheroleofsalicylicacid(SA)inalleviatingthenegativeeffectonspikeletdifferentiationinducedbyheatstress.Theresultsindicatedthatundernaturalconditions,lowconcentrationofSAincreasedthespikeletnumberperpanicle,whilehighconcentrationdecreasedthenumb
6、er.Interestingly,eitherloworhighconcentrationsofSA(10-50000μmol/L)increasedthegrainnumberperpanicleunderheatstress.Thegrainyieldandgrainnumberperpaniclepeakedunderthetreatmentof100μmol/LSAcomparedwiththeirrespectivecontrol(0μmol/L)underbothnaturalconditi
7、onsandheatstress.Thismightattributetotheincreaseintheleafphotosynthesisrate,antioxidantenzymeactivities,concentrationsofauxin(IAA)andzeatin(ZR)inspikeletsunderheatstress.Heatstressoccurredatspikeletdifferentiationstageseemedtocauselittledamagetotheleaf,b
8、uttheactuallightquantumefficiencyandnetphotosyntheticrateofleafwereincreasedwhensprayedwithSA.Accordingly,therewasnosignificantdifferenceintheactivitiesofSOD,PODandCATofleafinrice.However,theseantioxidantenzymeactivitiesin
