5、alandextraterrestrialsurfaces.Wedescriberesearchonautomatedmethodsofmineralidentificationfromreflectancespectraandgiveevidencethatasimplealgorithm,adaptedfromawell-knownsearchprocedureforBayesnets,identifiesthemostfrequentlyoccurringclassesofcarbonateswithre

6、liabilityequaltoorgreaterthanthatofhumanexperts.Wecomparethereliabilityoftheproceduretothereliabilityofseveralotherautomatedmethodsadaptedtothesamepurpose.Evidenceisgiventhattheprocedurecanbeappliedtosomeothermineralclassesaswell.Sincetheprocedureisfastwithl
