4、tric-optical(GO)canopyreflectancemodel.Remotesensingfromspaceistheonlyfeasiblemethodforregularlymappingwoodyshrubcoveroverlargeareas,animportantapplicationbecauseextensivewoodyshrubencroachmentintoformergrasslandshasbeenseeninaridandsemi-aridgrasslandsaroun
5、dtheworldduringthelast150years.ThemajordifficultyinapplyingGOmodelsindesertgrasslandsisthespatiallydynamicnatureofthecombinedsoilandunderstorybackgroundreflectance:thebackgroundisimportantandcannotbemodeledaseitheraLambertianscattererorbyusingafixedbidirect
6、ionalreflectancedistributionfunction(BRDF).CandidatepredictorsofthebackgroundBRDFattheSun-target-MISRangularsamplingconfigurationsincludedthevolumescatteringkernelweightfromaLi–RossBRDFmodel;diffusebrightness(ρ0)fromtheModifiedRahman-Pinty-Verstraete(MRPV)B
