3、SecretaryofStateaformalreplytoarecentAmericanmessage・Whilethisreplystatedthatitseemeduselesstocontinuetheexistingdip1omaticnegotiations,itcontainednothreatorhintofwarorarmedattack・ItwillberecordedthatthedistaneeofHawaiifromJapanmakesitobviousthattheattackwasdeliberatelyp

4、lannodmanydaysorevenweeksago.Duringtheinterveningtime,theJapanesegovernmenthasdeliberatelysoughttodeceivetheUnitedStatesbyfalsestatementsandexpressionsofhopeforcontinuedpeace.TheattackyesterdayontheHawaiianislandshascausedseveredamagetoAmericannavalandmilitaryforces.Very

5、manyAmericanliveshavebeenlost・Inaddition,AmericanshipshavebeenreportedtorpedoedonthehighseasbetweenSanFranciscoandHonolulu.Yesterday,theJapanesegovernmentalsolaunchedanattackagainstMalaya.Lastnight,JapaneseforcesattackedHongKong・Lastnight,JapaneseforcesattackedGuam.Lastn

6、ight,JapaneseforcesattackedthePhilippineIslands.Lastnight,theJapaneseattackedWakeIsland.Thismorning,theJapaneseattackedMidwayIsland.Japanhas,therefore,undertakenasurpriseoffensiveextendingthroughoutthePacificarea
