2、ndhighfrequencycharacterizetheprepositions.Becauseofthesecharacteristics,Englishprepositionsarequitedifficultforforeignlearners,andChineseEFLlearnersarealsonoexception.SomeresearchershavealreadybeenconcerningthewaystosolvethedifficultywithEnglishprepositionsacquisitionforforeig
3、nlearners.Halliday(1994)putforwardtheideathatthefunctionofprepositionsbearsasimilaritytoverbsinEnglishsentences,theearliestworkinthepolysemyoftheEnglishprepositionoverwascarriedoutbyBrugman(1981),andZhangDaozhen(1981)andZhangZhenbang(1981)havestudiedEnglishprepositionsfromthepe
4、rspectiveofstructuralism.However,somequestionsstillexistconcerningtheproperuseoftheEnglishprepositions.Therefore,itisnecessarytostudythisissuefurther.Theresearchisconductedfromtheperspectiveofthecognitivelinguisticsanditisonthebasisoftheprincipledpolysemynetwork,whichwasputforw
5、ardbyTylerandEvans(2001)atfirst.Theynamedtheprimarysenserelatedtoaspatialparticleastheproto-senseintheircooperativeresearchonthesemanticmodelofEnglishprepositions.ThisresearchattemptstofindouttheproblemswithChineselearners’acquisitionofEnglishprepositions.Throughaqualitativeand
