3、nsonMacintoshes.Thisisthefourtheditionofabookwhichfirstappearedin1994,andtheSenvironmenthasgrownrapidlysince.Thisbookconcentratesonusingthecurrentsystemstodostatistics;thereisacompanionvolume(VenablesandRipley,2000)whichdiscussesprogrammingintheSlanguageinmuchgreaterdepth.Someofthemorespecializedfun
4、ctionalityoftheSenvironmentiscoveredinon-linecomplements,additionalsectionsandchapterswhichareavailableontheWorldWideWeb.ThedatasetsandSfunctionsthatweusearesuppliedwithmostSenvironmentsandarealsoavailableon-line.Thisisnotatextinstatisticaltheory,butdoescovermodernstatisticalmethod-ology.Eachchapte
