5、oughtheprinciplesofShintoism,BuddhismandConfucianismforseveralhundredyears(DeMente,1994).Japanhastraditionallyemphasisedcooperation,advocatingthevaluesoftrust,selfrestraint,harmonyandorganisationalloyalty.Shintoism,BuddhismandConfucianismhaveallcontributedtotheformationofthesevaluesinJapan(Wat
6、suji,1952).Shintoismemphasisestheimportanceofcleanlinessofmind;usingotherpeopleforone’sself-interestisconsidered‘unclean’(Watsuji,1952).Confucianism,withitsemphasisonorderliness,wasinitiallyintroducedfromChinaandthenredevelopedinJapan.OrderlinessisbasedontheJapaneseunderstandingofConfucianismw
