3、esfromcontourtocontour.AtraditionalloftingapproachcreatesasetofB-splinecurvesviaB-splinecurveinterpolationtoeachcontour,makesthemcompatibleviadegreeelevationandknotinsertion,andperformsB-splinesurfaceloftingtogetaB-splinesurfaceinterpolatingthem.Theapproachtendsto
4、resultinanastonishingnumberofcontrolpointsintheresultingB-splinesurface.ThissituationarisesmainlyfromtheinevitableprocessofprogressivelymergingdifferentknotvectorstomaketheB-splinecurvescompatible.Thispaperpresentsanewapproachforavoidingthistroublesomesituation.Th
5、eapproachincludesanovelprocessofgettingasetofcompatibleB-splinecurvesfromthegivencontours.Theprocessisbasedontheuniversalparameterization[1,2]allowingtheknotstobeselectedfreelybutleadingtoamorestablelinearsystemforB-splinecurveinterpolation.Sincethenumberofcontrol
6、pointsineachcompatibleB-splinecurveisequaltothehighestnumberofcontourpoints,theproposedapproachcanrealizeefficientdatareductionandprovideacompactrepresentationofaB-splinesurfacewhilekeepingthedesiredsurfaceshape.Someexperimentalresultsdemonstrateitsusefulnessandqu
