2、GAD)(theGADpolicy)replacesADB’spolicyontheRoleofWomeninDevelopment(WID),whichwasadoptedin1985.TheGADpolicycodifiesADB’sshiftfromaWIDtoaGADapproach,whichadoptsgendermainstreamingasakeystrategyforpromotinggenderequity.Thisrequiresgendertobetreatedasacros

3、s-cuttingthemeinfluencingallsocialandeconomicprocesses.TheGADpolicyprovidesthepolicyframeworkforthenewapproachandpractices;introducesnewinstitutionalmechanismstoaddressgenderconcernsinADB’sprogramofactivities;andsupportsincreasedemphasisongenderissuesi

4、nallADBoperations.B.Definitions2.ThefollowingtermsareusedintheGADpolicy:(i)“Gendersensitivity”istoobservehowADBoperationsaffectwomenandmendifferently,andtotakeintoaccounttheirdifferentneedsandperspectivesinplanningtheseoperations.(ii)“Genderanalysis”re

5、ferstothesystematicassessmentofimpactofaprojectonmenandwomenandontheireconomicandsocialrelationships.(iii)“Genderplanning”referstotheformulationofspecificstrategiestobringaboutequalopportunitiesforwomenandmen.(iv)“Gendermainstreaming”istoensurethatgend

6、erconcernsandwomen'sneedsandperspectivesareexplicitlyconsideredinallADBoperations,andthatwomenparticipateinthedecision-makingprocessindevelopmentactivities.C.ThePolicy3.TheGADpolicyadopts“mainstreaming”asakeystrategyforpromotinggenderequity.Itrequirese

7、xplicitintegrationofgenderconsiderationsinallaspectsofADBoperations.ThisentailsaddressinggenderconsiderationsinADB'smacroeconomic,sector,strategy,andprogrammingwork,includingstudiesontheimpactofeconomicreformprogramsonwomen;undertakinggenderanalysisinp
