3、lyspeaking.Therearefourpartsinthispaper.Weopenourdiscussionwithabriefintroductiontotherapiddevelopmentinsociolinguisticsoverthepastfourdecades.Then,we卿tocaptureageneralizationaboutthisnewlydevelopedsubfteldbyturningtoacomprehensiverepresentationofsomedistinc-livefeaturesitpossess
4、esasamultidisciplinarysubjectinthedomainoflinguistics.Consequently,someuniquefeaturesthatdistinguishitfromitssisterfieldsaresummarizedasanti-traditionality,humanisticconsideration,eclecticism,mulfidisciplinarity,praginicality,complementarymarginality,andinductiveempiricality.Inth
5、ispart,wealsoillustratetheessenceofsociolinguisticsasanapplie-dscienceanditsrelationtoothergermanefields.Thethirdpartisintroducedtoexaminesomepos-sibledirectionsandnewfrontiersinthestudyofsociolinguistics,alongwithacollectionofinslanti-alionbeinggiven.Someconclusionsaredrawninthe
6、closingpartbyemphasizingthesignificanceofsociolinguisficresearchinChina.Implicationsobtainedfromthecurrentstudyaremany.Whenwelookatsociolinguisfcissues,aclearfactthatshouldnotbemissedisthatpluralism,eclecticism,andmultidisciplinarityhavebe-comesomeindispensableelementsinthelingui
7、sticstudyofthenewepoch.Facingasituationlikethis,moremeaningfulinteractionandmoreefficientcommunicationshouldbeencouragedamongresearchersfromdifferentbutrelatedfieldsifwewanttohaveamorefruitfulpursuitinthisenter-prise.Followinganargumentlikethis,aninsightfulimplicationsuggestedbyt
