3、tics,systemicfunctionallinguistics,stylisticsandtranslation.However,thesitcomhasbeenrarelystudiedfromthepointofAppraisalTheory,nottomentionthesystematicstudiesoftheAFFECTsysteminthesitcom.AppraisalTheoryisarelativelynewdevelopmentandenrichmentofinterpersonalmeaningsinsystemi
4、cfunctionallinguistics(SFL).AFFECT,thesubsystemofATTITUDE,isdefinedas“evaluationbymeansofthewriter/speakerindicatinghowtheyareemotionallydisposedtotheperson,thing,happeningorstateofaffairs.”(Martin&White,2005)Although,asabranchofATTITUDE,ithasbeenappliedinsomediscoursestudie
5、s,ithasbeenrarelyappliedinthestudyofthesitcom.AndthereisnoonewhoconductsacontrastivestudyofAFFECTresourcesbetweenEnglishandChinesesitcoms.Inthepresentstudy,theauthorconductsacontrastiveanalysisofAFFECTsystembetweenEnglishandChinesesitcomsfrom3perspectives,namely,AFFECTtypes,
6、AFFECTmodesandAFFECTloadings,attemptingtoexplorethedifferencesandsimilaritiesofthedistributionsofAFFECTresourcesbetweenEnglishandChinesesitcoms.Thestudychooses30episodesfromFriends(24episodes)andIpartment(6episodes)(thetotalnumberofEnglishwordis64,671,andChinesecharacteris66
7、,525).WiththehelpofUAMCorpusTool2.8.7,quantitativeapproachisemployedintheprocessofanalyzingthesamples.Onthebasisoftheresearchdesignanddataanalysis,thepresentstudyhasreachedthefollowingconclusions:Thesimilaritiesbetweenthetwocorporaareasfollows:AstothemodeofAFFECT,thefrequenc
