3、onkinshipmetaphorbasedonliterarytextsintheEnglishlanguage.Asamatteroffact,kinshipmetaphorisingeneraluseinmodernChinese,suchas“失败乃成功之母(Failureisthemotherofsuccess)”and“兄弟院校(peercolleges)”.Thepresentstudy,withtheframeworkofConceptualMetaphorTheoryproposedbyLak
4、offandJohnson,aimstoexploretheformation,operationandinterpretationof“父(fu)”and“母(mu)”metaphorscollectedfromtheCCLcorpusofPekingUniversity.Theexplorationisconductedfromlinguistic,cognitiveandculturalperspectives.Tobeginwith,weuse“父(fu)”and“母(mu)”askeywordstoc
5、ollectrelevantdatafromtheCCLcorpus,andadoptSteen’sMIPVUmethodtoidentifymetaphoricalexpressionsinthecollecteddata.Inthisway,weobtain3647“父(fu)”metaphorsand11390“母(mu)”metaphors.Accordingtoimageschemasofthesourcedomains,wecategorize“父(fu)”and“母(mu)”metaphorsin
6、tofourtypesofschemas,namely,creator,reproductiveorgan,leader,andfostererschema.WiththehelpofConceptMetaphorTheory,thestudymakesacognitiveanalysison“父(fu)”metaphorsand“母(mu)”metaphors,probingintothesymmetricalfeaturesofmetaphorformationandfactorsthatinfluence
7、theformationofthemetaphors.Thestudyfindsthatintheprocessofconstructingmetaphors,“父(fu)”“母(mu)”metaphorsofthefourschematictypesfeaturesymmetry,asymmetryandincompletesymmetry.Specificallyspeaking,1)thefeatureofsymmetrymainlyliesinthemetaphoricalexpressionsofcr
8、eatorandfostererschema;2)thefeatureofasymmetryisgenerallymanifestedinallofthefourschematictypes;3)thefeatureofincompletesymmetryisembeddedintheleaderschema.Theformationofthesefeaturesandtheforma
