3、retationofpolysemy.Cognitivelinguistsbelievethatthemultiplesensesofapolysemicwordarenotacollectionofunrelatedelements.Insteadtheyarecloselylinkedtohumanexperienceandperceptionoftheworld.TylerandEvansproposedaPrincipledPolysemyModeforprepositionalpolysemyonthebasisofpreviousscholars'research.

4、JustbasedonTylerandEvans'PrincipledPolysemyMode,thisthesisdiscussesthepolysemynetworkoftheprepositionthrough.Asoneofthemostcommonlyusedprepositions,throughplaysanimportantroleinourdailycommunication.Byanalyzingstudiesonprepositionsathomeandabroad,theauthorfindsthattherearelessresearchforprep

5、ositionsthrough.Thusitisnecessarytostudytheprepositionthrough.Tworesearchquestionsarediscussedinthisthesis:(1)howtoconstructthepolysemynetworkofthrough?(2)Whatisthecognitivemechanismunderlyingthesemanticextensionofthrough?Thisthesiscombinesthemethodsofdescriptionandinterpretation,andtriestoc
