6、sabstractedfrommainEnglishnewspapersandmagazinesathomeandabroad．ThepinpointofthelinguisticaspectofEnglishnewscommentariesinthisthesisisfuzzylanguage．Inthefirstpart,thethesisconductsacomprehensivereviewoftheresearchofnewscommentariesandfuzzinessstudy．Inthesecondpart,thethesis

7、makesapresentationoffuzzylanguageinEnglishnewscommentaries．Theauthorrandomlyselects25EnglishnewscommentariesfromChinesemediaand25fromforeignmedia．Thentheauthorcomparesthefrequenciesofmodalverbhedges，adjectixreandadverbhedgesasrepresentativesoffuzzylanguageinthese50newscommen

8、taries．Basedontheresultsofthisresearch，theauthorfmdsthat：(1)Theappearanceofmodalverbhedgesismorefrequentthanthatofadjectiveandadverbhedges；(2)Chinesecommentatorstendtousefuzzyexpressionswithdeeperdegreesofcertaintymorefrequentlythanforeigncounterpartsdo；(3)Chinesecommentator

9、susealmostthesameamountofhedgesasusedbyforeigncommentators，andthetotalquantityofhedgesisverysmallinthese50newscommentaries．Althoughfuzzylanguagedoesnotoccupytoomuchspaceinnewscommentaries，theydoexistinthiskindofliterarystylewhichconsidersprecisionasthepriority．Theymusthavepo
