2、hatpassengertrafficgrewbyapreliminaryfigureof17.4%year-on-year(y-o-y)in2010,to270mnpassengers.Thisreflectsanongoingimprovementfrom2009,whenpassengertrafficgrewby16.8%y-o-y.Suchstronggrowthreflectsboththerecoveryoftheinternationaltouristmarketandthedepthofthedomesticmark
3、et.Trafficgrowthwillprovidechallengesforthegovernmentandaviationauthorities,particularlygiventhecurrentlimitedcapacityofexistingairtrafficcontrolsystemsandtheneedtokeepmilitaryandcivilianairspaceseparate.Inaddition,Chinarunsareservationsystemthatisincompatiblewiththemaj
4、orsystemsusedelsewhereintheworld.OnefinalimpedimenttogrowthisthatChinalacksenoughskilledpilotstomeetthedemandforflights.However,thepotentialofthemarketistremendous.Thereareplanstobuild97newairportsoverthenext10yearstoincreasethetotaltonearly250.Bytheendof2010,Chinawasop
5、erating176airports,havingopened10duringthepreviousyear.Theworld’slargestairlineterminalopenedinBeijinginearly2008,whilecapacityatShanghaiisbeingboostedto35mnpassengersayear,andatGuangzhouto27mn.Inasignofthebullishnesssurroundingtheindustry,China’sairlineshaveapproximate
6、ly500newaircraftonorder.Itispredictedthatby2020Chinawillneedtoaddabout1,600jetstoitsaircraftfleet.InJuly2007,theUSandChinasignedafar-reachingaviationagreementthatwillleadtoasharpincreaseinairtrafficbetweenbothcountries.UScarrierswillbeabletooperate23dailyflightsby2012(u
7、pfrom10atpresent)andChineseairlinesareallowedtooperatethesamenumberofservices.Cargoflightswillhavenolimitsby2012.UnitedAirlines,AmericanAirlines,ContinentalAirlinesandNorthwestAirlinesofferpassengerservicetoChina.InJuly2009,fourChineseairlinesagreedtobuyatotalof42ofBoei
8、ng’snew787Dreamlineraircraft,atatotalcostofUS$5.04bn.Initially,AirChinaandChinaEasternAirlinesaretobuy15planes
