3、eetthoseneeds.Design/methodology/approachThisresearchisexploratoryandqualitative.Dataarebasedonfocusgroupsessionswith19professionaltranslators.Whereappropriate,findingsarerelatedtoseveraltheoriesrelatingtaskcharacteristicsandinformationbehavior(IB).FindingsThefindingssupportsomeofBystro¨msfindingsabou
4、trelationshipbetweentaskandinformationusebutalsosuggestnewhypothesesorrelationshipsamongtask,informationneed,andinformationuse,includingthenotionofazoneoffamiliarity.Translatorsuseawiderangeofresources,bothformalandinformal,localizedsources,includingpersonalcontactswithothertranslators,nativespeake
5、rs,anddomainexperts,tosupplementtheirbasicresources,whicharedifferenttypesofdictionaries.Thestudyaddressestranslatorproblemscreatedbytheneedtotranslatematerialsinlesscommonlytaughtlanguages.Researchlimitations/implicationsFocusgroupsessionsallowonlyforidentifyingconcepts,relationships,andhypotheses
6、,notforindicatingtherelativeimportanceofvariablesordistributionacrossindividuals.Translationdoesnotcoverliterarytranslation.PracticalimplicationsThepapersuggestscontentandfeaturesofworkstationsofferingaccesstowiderangeofresourcesforprofessionaltranslators.Originality/valueUnlikeotherinformationbeha
