4、leryaccompanyingthe2007event,‘ImaginingReproductioninScienceandHistory.’Forgedfirstinthecrucibleofculturalhistory,thepiecewasthenfurthermodelledthroughdiscussionsbetweenhistoriansandmedics.Inconsideringtheopeningquestion,thispiecearguesthatopenandconstructivediscussionencourag
5、esproductivereflectionforbothhistoricalandmedicalviewersofmedicalillustration.Historiansgainatremendousdividendfromacknowledgingthatmedicalimagesarelinkedtopractices,thoseofrecordinganddissection,forexample,butalsothoseofteaching.Medicscanunderstandtheroleoftheirworkincontempo
6、rarysocietybyreflectingonthechoicesmadeinthecreation,manipulationanduseofimagesandrecognizingthedegreetowhichthesechoicesareculturallyspecific.Asinanyareaofhumanlife,historyofferstheopportunitytoreflecton,andunderstandbetter,ourownpresentpractices;bythesametoken,inlearningmore
