2、icaltechniqueispresentedforcharacterizationofthetransmissionpropertiesofathree-dimensionalslotinathickconductingplane.Theslotisofarbitraryshapeandisexcitedbyanelectromagneticsourcefarawayfromitsplane.Theanalysisoftheproblemisbasedonthe"generalizednetworkformulation"foraper
3、tureproblems.Theproblemissolvedusingthemethodofmoments(MOM)andthefiniteelementmethod(FEM)inahybridformat.Thefiniteelementmethodisapplicabletoinhomogeneouslyfilledslotsofarbitraryshapewhilethemethodofmomentsisusedforsolvingtheelectromagneticfieldsinunboundedregionsoftheslot
4、.Thecavityregionhasbeensubdividedintotetrahedralelementsresultingintriangularelementsonthesurfacesoftheapertures.Validationresultsforrectangularslotsarepresented.Closeagreementbetweenourdataandpublishedresultsisobserved.Thereafter,newdatahasbeengeneratedforcross-shaped,H-s

6、uide-fedapertures,cavity-fedapertures,waveguide-to-waveguidecoupling,waveguide-to-cavitycoupling,andcavity-to-cavitycouplinghavebeeninvestigatedintheliterature.Bothintentionalandinadvertentaperturesofvariousshapesareencounteredinthemanyapplicationsaffordedbytheadvancesinte
7、chnologyandincreasedscaleofutilizationofmicrowaveandmillimeter-wavebandsforcommunications,radar,industrialanddomesticapplications.Examplesofundesirablecouplingareleakagefrommicrowaveovensandprintedcircuitboards,electromagneticpenetrationintovehicles,andelectromagneticpulse
