SheandhercolleaguesgathereddatafromanongoingUKtrialthatincludesparentsandkids.Fromsurveysfilledoutbyparent

4、s,theresearcherscollectedinformationoneatingdisordersymptoms4among7,082teensatage13-suchasbinging,excessiveconcernsoverbodyweightorshapeandbehaviorslikerestrictingfoodintake.  Theteamalsolookedatlinksbetweenthesesymptomsandotheraspectsoftheteens'social,academic,extracurricularandfamilylives.  Overa

5、ll,63percentofgirlsand39percentofboyswereafraidofgainingweightorgettingfat.Extremelevelsoffearofweightgainorconcernsaboutbodyshapeorweightwereseenamong11percentofgirls.  Girlsavoidedfattyfoodsmoreoftenthanboys,whileboysweremorelikelytodointenseexerciseforweightloss.  Evenatage13,overeatingandbingin

6、gwasstronglylinkedtonegativeimpactsonthechild'slifeandburdentofamilyamongbothboysandgirls,theresearchersreportintheJournalofAdolescentHealth.  Bingingandovereatingwereespeciallylinkedtoemotionalandbehavioraltroublesforbothgenders.Cuttingbackonfoodwaslinkedtomentalhealthdisturbancesamongboysmorethan
