3、erencenumericaltechniques.Amongthem,theslicesmethodhasalmostdominatedthegeotechnicalprofessionforestimatingthestabilityofsoilandrockslopes.Thisisduetothefactthattheslicesmethodisverysimple,cumulatedontheuseofthemethod,andthemethodisthemostknownandwidely

4、acceptedbypracticingengineers.Untilnow,alinearMCfailurecriterioniscommonlyusedinthelimitanalysisofstabilityproblems.ThereasonisprobablythatalinearMCfailurecriterioncanbeexpressedascircles.Thischaracteristicmakesitpossibletoapproximatethecirclesbyafailur

5、esurface,whichisalinearfunctionofthestressesinthestressspaceforplanestrainproblems.Thus,basedontheupperandlowerboundtheorems,formulationsofthestabilityorbearingcapacityproblemsarelinearprogrammingproblems.However,experimentshaveshownthatthestrengthenvel
