4、rillpipe,byusingachamberaroundtheconnection.Severalcompanieshavedevelopedcontinuouscirculationsubswhicharethreadedbetweentooljointstoachievecontinuouscirculationwithoutapressurechamber.Thesehavehadvaryingdegreesofsuccessfrombothanoperationalandsafetystandpoint.Th

5、ispaperdescribesthecurrentMPDmarketanddescribesthephilosophyadoptedforanewside-entrysub.IntroductionHistorywasmadeinJulyof2003,whenthefirstcontinuouscirculationchamberwastestedinprototypeformonalandrig.Jointeddrillpipewasseparatedinsideasealedchamber,whichwasfill

6、edwithdrillingfluidsprovidedbythemudpumps.Thedrillstringwasseparated,anotherjointadded,anddrillingcontinuedwithoutevershuttingdownthemudpumps.Afteritsintroductionin2005,manyoperatorshavebegunusingthecontinuouscirculationchamberasawaytodrillun-drillablewells,speci
