4、bswhicharethreadedbetweentooljointstoachievecontinuouscirculationwithoutapressurechamber.Thesehavehadvaryingdegreesofsuccessfrombothanoperationalandsafetystandpoint.ThispaperdescribesthecurrentMPDmarketanddescribesthephilosophyadoptedforanewside-entrysub.IntroductionHistorywasmadeinJulyof2003,w

5、henthefirstcontinuouscirculationchamberwastestedinprototypeformonalandrig.Jointeddrillpipewasseparatedinsideasealedchamber,whichwasfilledwithdrillingfluidsprovidedbythemudpumps.Thedrillstringwasseparated,anotherjointadded,anddrillingcontinuedwithoutevershuttingdownthemudpumps.Afteritsintroducti

6、onin2005,manyoperatorshavebegunusingthecontinuouscirculationchamberasawaytodrillun-drillablewells,specificallythosehaving“tight”porepressureandfracturepressurewindows.Thismeansthatthebottom-holepressuremustbeverycloselycontrolledatalltimes(evenduringconnections)toavoideitherfracturingtheformati
