2、tionsimultaneouslyinprintedmatters,oncomputerscreensandperformancestages.Accordinglypeople’smodesofthinkingandwaysoflearninghaveexperiencednoteworthychanges,andtheconceptof‘Multiliteracies’hasemergedandattractedscholarlyattention.Substantialstudieshavebeencarriedoutbot
3、hfromtheperspectiveofmultimediatedliteracyandinthedimensionofculturalandlinguisticdiversity.Toavoidtoomanyfoci,ourpresentresearchconcentratesonMultiliteraciesinthesenseofmultimediatedliteracy,anddiscussestheverbaltextsandvisualimagesintextbookdiscourseamongmanyothermul
4、timodalteachingandlearningresources.NowadaysinChina,moststudentsinprimaryandsecondaryschoolswereborninthelate1980soreven1990s.Theyarepracticallyandextensivelyengagedwithmultisemioticmodesofcommunicationbothwithinandoutsidetheirclassrooms,whichhasbecomeawidely–voicedcon
5、cernamongeducationists(Fu2005).Apedagogythatenablesmultimediatedliteracypracticeswillatleastcomplement,ifnotreplace,thetraditionallanguage-basedpedagogy.TheissueoftextbookeditinghasfrequentlybeenputontheagendaoftheeducationalreforminChina.However,giventhenumerousstudie
6、soncurriculumdesign,textbookeditingandteachingmethodology,itissurprisingthat,todate,themultisemioticnatureofcontemporarytextbookscurrentlyusedinChinahasbeenrelativelyunexplored,whichexplainsinpartthenecessityoftheproposedresearchtopic.Thefocusofthepresentstudyisonthein
7、terpersonalmanagementintextbookdiscourse.WewillgroundourresearchinSystemicFunctionalLinguistics(henceforthSFL),withthepurposeofprovidinganintegratedaccountofEnglishtextbookdiscourseacrossthestrataoflanguagesystemandsocial-culturalcontext.Thedatatobeusedinthepresentstud
