5、eatmoment,thewiseresolutionofwhichwillbettershapethefutureofthenation.MyownrelationswiththeCongress,whichbeganonaremoteandtenuousbasiswhen,longago,amemberoftheSenateappointedmetoWestPoint,havesincerangedtotheintimateduringthewarandimmediatepost-warperio
6、d,andfinallytothemutuallyinterdependentduringthesepasteightyears.Inthisfinalrelationship,theCongressandtheAdministrationhave,onmostvitalissues,cooperatedwell,toservethenationgood,ratherthanmerepartisanship,andsohaveassuredthatthebusinessofthenationshoul
7、dgoforward.So,myofficialrelationshipwiththeCongressendsinafeeling--onmypart--ofgratitudethatwehavebeenabletodosomuchtogether. Wenowstandtenyearspastthemidpointofacenturythathaswitnessedfourmajorwarsamonggreatnations.Threeoftheseinvolvedourowncountry.De
