3、fthesedisorders.InDSMIItherewasnocategoryappropriateformoresevereformsofchildpsychopathologyapartfrom“ChildhoodSchizophrenia”.ThiscategorywasverygeneralandnotsufficientforthediagnosisofthefullrangeproblemsnowconsideredundertheheadingofPDDDSMIICriteriaforChildho
4、odSchizophreniaSymptomsappearbeforepuberty.Theconditionsmaybemanifestedbyautistic,atypicalandwithdrawnbehavior;Failuretodevelopanidentityapartfromthemotherswithgeneralunevenness,grossimmaturity,andinadequacyofdevelopment.Thesedevelopmentaldefectsmayresultinment
5、alretardation,whichshouldalsobediagnosed.Althoughsomechildrenmetcriteriaforthisdisordermostwithseverepsychologicalproblemsdidnot.DSMIII:ANewCategoryforPDDInDSMIIIanattemptwasmadetoprovidemoreadequatediagnosticcategoriesforclassifyingmoreseriousformsofchildpsych
6、opathology.Heretwoprimarydiagnosticcategorieswereprovided,asweremoreobjectivediagnosticcriteriaandspecificdecisionrulesformakingdiagnoses.PDD:GeneralCharacteristicsoftheCategoryPervasiveDevelopmentalDisordersconsideredwithinDSMIVdifferinavarietyofwaysseverityof
7、impairment,ageofonset,likelyetiologicalfactorsinvolvedTheyaresimilarinreflectingcorefeaturesthatdefinethegeneraldiagnosticcategory.Theyareseenasdisorderscharacterizedbypervasiveimpairmentsinseveralareas,including;deficitsinreciprocalsocialinteractions,deficitsi
