2、ingchallengingtimesduetotheexplosionofdigitalinformation.IncreasinglylibraryusersareexpectingaccesstoGISandgeospatialdataaswellastraditionalpapermaps.Thispresentsmanyissuestomosttraditionallibraryservices.Nowisthetimeforlibrarianstoplanaheadandmakestrategicdecisionsab
3、outthefuturedeliveryandconceptofthe‘maplibrary’.Thispaperdiscusseschallenges,issues,andsolutionsthattheUniversityofAucklandLibraryhasbeenaddressingoverthelast2yearsinordertoimproveandenhanceuseandaccesstomapsandgeospatialdata.KeywordsMapLibrarianship,maplibrarians,map

5、ytherehasbeenatransitionfrompapermapstodigitaldata.Traditionallyamaplibrarywouldholdalargecollectionofpapermapsorganizedinmapcabinets.TheUniversityofAucklandLibrarycurrentlyholdsabout55,000suchmaps.Thesemapshavebeenusedasaprimaryresourcetostoreandcommunicategeographic
