2、rianshipisfacingchallengingtimesduetotheexplosionofdigitalinformation.IncreasinglylibraryusersareexpectingaccesstoGISandgeospatialdataaswellastraditionalpapermaps.Thispresentsmanyissuestomosttraditionallibraryservices.Nowisthetimeforlibrarianstoplanaheada
3、ndmakestrategicdecisionsaboutthefuturedeliveryandconceptofthe‘maplibrary’.Thispaperdiscusseschallenges,issues,andsolutionsthattheUniversityofAucklandLibraryhasbeenaddressingoverthelast2yearsinordertoimproveandenhanceuseandaccesstomapsandgeospatialdata.Key

5、reateditisfirstnecessarytounderstandhowmapsworkandwhytherehasbeenatransitionfrompapermapstodigitaldata.Traditionallyamaplibrarywouldholdalargecollectionofpapermapsorganizedinmapcabinets.TheUniversityofAucklandLibrarycurrentlyholdsabout55,000suchmaps.These
