3、senvironment,thepsychologicalcontractofemployeesandorganizationalrepresentativesmaybeshiftingtowardsafarmoretransactionalparadigm.Transactionalcontractsdescribeperceptionsthatemploymentobligationsaremoreshort-term,workcontentbasedandlessrelational.Howeverinthecaseofkeyem
4、ployeegroups,suchtransactionalrelationshipsmayconflictwithanorganisation’sneedtoretainitscoreskillsandknowledgethatformoneofitsonlytrulysustainablecompetitiveadvantages.Thereforedivergentandvariedpsychologicalcontractsincreasethedifficultyofdecisionsregardingthelong-term
5、retentionofkeyemployees.Anexplanatorymodelisthereforepresentedhere,allowingforthevariouspermutationsandeffectsonkeystaffretentionthatmayarisefromsuchdifferingperceptions.Organisationalsolutionsandresearchpropositionsaresuggestedforfutureresearch.Psychologicalcontractsand
6、employeeretentionItshouldbenotedthat,inthiscontext,staff“retention”isaconceptnotonlyconcernedwithstemmingthedysfunctionalturnoverofkeyemployeesbutalsoequallyimportantwiththebehavioursandattitudesthatareevidencediftheystayFlowers&Hughes,1973.Itisimportantthatthosewhostaya
