4、boundtoplayadominantroleinallaspectsofmodernsocietyincluding,ofcourse,languageeducation.ThisthesisisintendedtoelaborateonwhatispossibleinEnglishteachingwhencyberspacehasbecomeareality,compellingustoponderonhowitwillchangethewayweteachandlearnEnglish,especiallyintradit
5、ionaluniversities.ThethesisbeginswithanintroductorychapterexplainingthenatureoftheEnglishlanguageteaching(ELT)inChina,theneedandthesignificanceofthestudy.ChapterTwoprovidesabriefhistoricalreviewoftechnologyandcomputerapplicationinEnglishteaching,explainswhatWBETis,bri
6、eflyreviewstheconstructivetheorywhichisthetheoreticalprincipleofWBETandgoesontodiscussthedifferentmodelswhichcanbeusedintraditionaluniversities.ComparedwithtraditionalclassroomEnglishteaching,WBEThasitsuniqueadvantages.ChapterThreeservesasanintroductiontoWeb-basedaids
