2、mark1.IntroductionDenmarkhascurrentlyabout2300MWwindpowercapacityinon-landandfewoffshoresettings,whichcorrespondstomorethan20%ofpowerconsumption(inaverage).Further,constructionoftwolarge-scaleoffshorewindfarmsof150MWpowercapacityeachhasbeenannounced.Thef

3、irstlargeoffshorewindfarminDenmarkwillbeconstructedatHomsRevbytheyear2002intheareaofthesystemoperatorELTRA.ThiswillbefollowedbythefirstintheareaoftheEasternDanishsystemoperator,ELKRAFTSystem,largeoffshorewindfarmatRodsandbytheyear2003.Theinstalledcapacit

4、yinon-landsettingsandincombinedheat-powerunits(UHP)willincreaseaswell,whilstthepowerproductionandcontrolabilityoftheconventionalpowerplantswithrespecttovoltageandfrequencyarereduced.Intheyearstocome,thepowerproductionpatternintheDanishpowersystemwillchan

5、gefromthepowersupplyfromconventionalpowerplants―asitisknowntoday―toapowersupplymix,whereabout30-40%ofpowerconsumption(inaverage)iscoveredbywindpower.Inotherwords,thepowertechnologywillundergochangesfromawell-knowntechnologybuilt-upaboutconventionalpowerp

6、lantstoapartlyunknowntechnology―windpower.Intheyeartocomeitwillbefocusingonmaintainingpowersystemstabilityandvoltagestability,forexampleatashortcircuitfault,ensuringpowersupplysafetyandotherimportanttasksasamountofwindpowerisdrasticallyincreasing.Thissit

7、uation19makesitnecessarytofindsolutionswithrespecttomaintainingdynamicstabilityofthepowersystemwithlargeamountofwindpoweranditsreliableoperation.Thesesolutionsarebasedonanumberofrequirementsthatareformulatedwithrespecttooperationofthelargeoffshorewindfar

8、msandtheexternalpowersystemincaseoffailureeventsintheexternalsystem.Thepapercontainsseparatesubjectsdealingwithdesignofwindmillsforlargeoffshoreapplicationsandtheircontrolthatshallbetakenintoaccountwithrespecttoimprovingth
