3、tenoughtoactivammoreinnovativestudiesinthisrespect．Viewingthissituation．thepresentstudyaimstocallforamulti-discipfinaryresearchmodelinscientificresearchingeneralandinlinguisticstudyinparticularSOthatahealthiercommunicationpattembetweenformalismandfunctionalismcouldbeesta

4、blished．Therearesevenpartsinthispaper．PartOneprovidesabriefintroductiontotheresearchbackgroundofcolorwordsandtheresearchmotivesofthecurrentstudy．Tofurtherpromotemorecross—disciplinaryresearchinthisacademicpracticeSOthatascientificstudyofcolorcodabilitycouldbepossible，atr

5、ipartitetheoreticmodelisputforwardinthispart,withatypologicalperspective，apsychologicalperspective，andasociolinguisticperspectivebeingequallyemphasizedandexaminedasawhole．PartTwopresentsthetheoreticdevelopmentincolorperceptionandcolorcodingoverthepastdecades．Theinnovativ

6、estudybyBerlin&Kayinbasiccolortermsisintroducedanddiscussedcritically．PartThreelooksatsomemethodologicalissuesinthestudyofcolorlexicon．Inordertoincreaseobjectivityincolorcodingresearch，itissuggestedthatmoreattentionshouldbepaidtoaholisticsurveyofthislinguisticsub—system．
