2、onthebuildingstructure.Fireeventsarederivedfromthehumanactivitieswithinbuildingsorfromthemalfunctionofmechanicalandelectricalequipmentprovidedwithinbuildingstoachieveaserviceableenvironment.Itisthereforepossibletodirectlyinfluencetherateoffirestartswithinbuildingsbychanging

3、humanbehaviour,improvedmaintenanceandimproveddesignofmechanicalandelectricalsystems.Furthermore,shouldafiredevelops,itispossibletodirectlyinfluencetheresultingfireseveritybytheincorporationoffiresafetysystemssuchassprinklersandtoprovidemeasureswithinthebuildingtoenablesafer

4、egressfromthebuilding.Theabilitytoinfluencetherateoffirestartsandtheresultingfireseverityisuniquetotheconsiderationoffirewithinbuildingssinceotherloadssuchaswindandearthquakesaredirectlyafunctionofnature.Thepossibleapproachesfordesigningabuildingforfiresafetyarepresentedusi

5、nganexampleofamulti-storeybuildingconstructedoverarailwayline.Thedesignofboththetransferstructuresupportingthebuildingovertherailwayandthelevelsabovethetransferstructureareconsideredinthecontextofcurrentregulatoryrequirements.Theprinciplesandassumptionsassoci-atedwithvariou
