2、A)formedanindependentsubject,alargenumberofresearchersshowedenormousinterestinhowsecondlanguagewasacquired.Since1980s,vocabularylearninghasbecomethemainfocusinthefieldofsecondlanguageacquisition.Moreandmoreresearchersandteachersbegantorealizetheimportanceofvocabulary
3、acquisition.AstothequestionwhetherL2vocabularyaregainedthroughincidentallearningorintentionallearning,researchersholddifferentviewsonit.Researchaboutincidentalvocabularylearninghasreceivedmuchmoreattentionabroad.ItiswidelyagreedthatmostofL2vocabularycanbeacquiredthro
4、ughincidentalvocabularylearningandincidentallearningshouldbecomethemainlearningmodeofsecondlanguagevocabularyacquisition.Comparedtoresearchabroad,muchlessisdoneinChinaaboutexploringtheeffectsofthetwovocabularylearningmodes.Therefore,thestudyattemptstocomparetheeffect
5、sofincidentallearningandintentionallearningonEnglishvocabularyacquisitionandretention.TwointactclassesofsophomoresmajoringinEnglishinBijieUniversityofGuizhouprovinceparticipateinthepresentstudy.Thetwoexperimentalgroupsareatthesamevocabularyproficiencylevel.Onegroupis
6、treatedasincidentallearninggroupandacquiresEnglishwordsincidentallythroughreading.Theothergroupistreatedasintentionalgroupandacquireswordsintentionallythroughmemorizingwordsinwordlist.Andthenboththetwoexperimentalgroupsarerequiredtotakeanimmediatevocabularytestandade
7、layedvocabularytestaftertwoweekstoexaminetheirvocabularygainsandretention.Inordertoassurethereliabilityandvalidityofiitheexperiment,threeidenticaltreatmentsaretobeconducted.TheresultoftheexperimentcanbeanalyzedthroughT-testandsomemajorfindingscanbegeneratedasfollows:
