2、astdevelopmentstage.Steppedintothenewmillennium,thedevelopmentofChina’surbanizationwasinaremarkablespeed.Accompanywithitsrapidurbanizationandsocio-economicdevelopment,Chinaformedseveralmetropolitanareaswhichtookuplargeproportionofpopulationinurbanareas,a
3、ndmadegreatcontributiontoGDPgrowth,theyweredynamicsofChina’ssocio-economicgrowth.ThispaperisgoingtopresentthestatusofdevelopmentofmetropolitanareasinChina;takingGreaterPearlDeltaascasestudy,analysesthecomplexity,diversityandthepowerrelationofmetroareas;t
4、oillustratetheexistingproblems,pressures,andthechallenges.Inaddition,thepaperwillpresentthepossibilitiesandnecessityofspatialplanningandco-ordinationinmanagementapproaches.Thenitwillgivesomeexamplesshowingthathowspatialplanningandco-ordinationsolvethepro

6、constructionofurbanareas.China’surbanizationgotintothefastdevelopmentstage.Steppedintothenewmillennium,thedevelopmentofChina’surbanizationwasinaremarkablespeed.“Attheendof2008,therewere655citiesintotal,176citiesmorethattheyear1991,anannualincreaseof11cit
7、ies.Therewereover593millionpopulationsinurbanareas,90.3%morethan1991.Theurbanizationrateclimbedupto45.68%.”(NationalBureauofStatisticofChina,2009)Accompanywithitsrapidurbanizationandsocio-economicdevelopment,largequantitiesofmigrantsmovedintourbanareas,C
