2、ge.ScientistsatUniversityofMontrealreportMondayintheCanadianMedicalAssociationJournalthatwomentakingthedrugsmostoftenprescribedtotreatdepressionandanxiety-includingselectiveserotoninreuptakeinhibitors(SSRIs),serotonin-norepinephrinereuptakeinhibitors(SNR
3、Is)andtheoldertricyclics-hadasignificantlyhigherriskofmiscarriagethanamatchedcontrolgroupofwomenwhodidnottakeantidepressants.Thestudyisthefirstofitskindtoanalyzewhichantidepressantsandwhichdosesaremostlikelytobeassociatedwithspontaneousabortion.LedbyAnic
4、kBérardattheFacultyofPharmacyattheUniversityofMontreal,theresearchteamalsodocumentedthattwoSSRIs,paroxetine(Paxil)andvenlafaxine(Effexor),areassociatedwiththegreatestrisk.BérardanalyzeddatafromapregnancyregistrythatsheestablishedinQuebec,whichcollectsrec
5、ordsonbirthsandspontaneousabortionsoccurringinhospitalsintheCanadianprovince.Thestudyincluded69,742womenfromtheregistry,5,124ofwhomhadhadaclinicallyrecordedmiscarriage.Amongthewomenwhohadmiscarried,5.5%hadfilledatleastoneprescriptionforanantidepressantdu
6、ringpregnancy,comparedwith2.7%ofthecontrolgroup.Researcherscalculatedthatantidepressantusershada68%higherriskofmiscarriagethannonusers,aftercontrollingforotherinfluencesthatcouldpotentiallyconfoundtheassociation.Overall,theriskwasgreatestamongwomenwhocom
7、binedtheuseoftwoormoreclassesofantidepressants.Whenresearcherslookedatthesmallamountsofdataonpatientsusingspecificdrugs,theyfoundthatthosetakingparoxetinealonehada75%higherrateofmiscarriagethanwomenwithoutdepression,whilewomentakingvenlafaxinehadamoretha
