LaineDuplerMon/Wed12-2pm8/5/2021Accordingtotheself-assessments,mystrengthsincludeleadership,beingproactive,havingahighlocusofcontrol,havinghighemotionalintelligence,beingananalyticaldecision-maker,andhavinghighpersonalplanningskills.LeadershipissomethingIhavebeenpracticingsincethethirdgrade.OnSAL#27:What’smyleadershipstyle,myscoreforconcernofpeoplewassevenandconcernfortaskwasnine.Theassessmentsaidpeoplewithhightaskorientationscoredaboveten,whilethosewithlowtaskorientationscoredbelowten.Forpeopleorientation,ahighscorewasabovesevenandalowscorewasbelowseven.SinceIscoredexactlysevenandalmostten,Iamrightinthemiddle.Itwasadifficulttestbecauseit’shardtosayhowyouwouldreacttothesituationsaskedduringtheassessmentifyouhaveneverbeenputinthatpositionbefore.Mostofthequestionscouldhavebeenanswereddifferentlybasedonspecificsituations.However,IwouldagreethatIamslightlymoretaskorientedthanpeopleoriented,liketheassessmentconcluded,becauseItendtocaremoreaboutthetaskbeingcompletedthanthepeopleworkingonit.Iincludedahighlocusofcontrolasastrengthofminebecauseitrequirespeopletotaketheiractionsintoaccountwhendealingwiththesuccessorfailureofanobstacle.SAL#3:Whatismylocusofcontrol?ratedmeasnine,havingahighlocusofcontrol.Myfatherinstilledinmethevalueofself-dependency;onlyIamincontrolofmysuccessesinlife.ThishaspushedmetosucceedineverythingIhavebeeninvolvedin,whetheritisschool,athletics,clubsorjobs.WhenIdosucceed,IcanfeelconfidentandproudthatIdiditonmyown,andwhenIfailatsomething,forinstancegetapoorgradeonatestoressay,Icanonlyblamemyselffornotstudyinghardenough.Withahighinternallocusofcontrol,Ipushmyselftosucceed,whichiswhyIconsideritastrength LaineDuplerMon/Wed12-2pm8/5/2021andnotaweakness.Alongwiththisconceptisemotionalintelligence,assessedduringSAL#20:WhatismyEmotionalIntelligencescore?Ascoreof40orhigherisconsideredhighE.IandIscored38.Althoughitwasclearintheassessmentwhichquestionsapersonwas“supposed”toansweryesornoto,Ithinkitcorrectlyassessedme.PeoplewithlowE.Iarelikelytohavedifficultymanagingothers,butIamusuallytheonetotakeinitiativeandassumetheleadershiprole.Anotherstrengthofmineismydecisionmakingstyle,scoredbySAL#17.Iscoredasananalyticaldecision-maker,whichtheassessmentsaysisbestfor“businessstudents,lower-levelmanagers,andtopexecutives.”Analyticalthinkers“desiremoreinformationandconsiderationofmorealternatives”beforemakingadecision,andIrelatetothiswhole-heartedly.Iliketohavefactsanddatatobackupmydecisions,andIdobetterinclassessuchasmathorsciencethaninabstractclassessuchasartorhistory.Ialsoliketolookatalternativesbeforemakingadecisiontoreinforcemyconclusion.SAL#22:HowgoodamIatpersonalplanning?evaluatedmypersonalplanningskills.Allofmyscoreswerefourorfive,meaningIdon’thaveaproblemwithpersonalplanning,andIamwellawareofthisfact.Ihavealwaysbeengoodatorganizingmytasksandaccomplishinggoalssotheresultsofthisassessmentwerenotsurprising.Iviewpersonalplanningasastrengthbecauseitishelpfulwhenyouhavealotofworkthatneedstobedoneinashortamountoftimeandyouareabletodelegateimportancetoeachtaskandcompletethemallsuccessfully. LaineDuplerMon/Wed12-2pm8/5/2021Inthenextfiveyears,IplanoncompletingmycollegedegreeinManagementInformationSystemsandMarketingatOhioUniversity.Duetomymajors,IhavechosentocompletetheJuniorCluster.SinceIliketoworkbymyself,IthinkMISisapracticalmajorformebecauseitdealswithtechnologyandcanbedoneindependentlyforthemostpart.AlthoughitisunclearexactlywhatIwanttodoasacareer,Iamleaningtowardworkingwithabank,forinstanceBankOneorBankofAmerica,anditsinformationsystems.Hopefullymyskillsandeducationcanimprovethebank’sdynamicandsecuritysystems.MyJungian16typepersonalityisISTJ:Introverted,Sensing,Thinking,andJudging.AccordingtoMeyers-Briggs,ISTJtypepersonalitiesare“thorough,painstaking,systematic,hard-working,andcarefulwithdetail.”Hopefullymyjobwithinabankisstructuredandorganized,sincethat’showIworkbest.However,Ineedtodevelopinareassuchasworkingwithotherpeopleandcommunicatingpraise,whichcanbeworkedonthroughmytworemainingyearsatOU.Mypersonalityalsovaluesstructureandplanning,soIamgoingtoworkveryhardatsecuringafull-timepositioninacompanybeforegraduatingcollegesoIcanprepareformyfutureprofessionduringspringquarterofsenioryear.Asacommittedmemberofanorganization,IhopetomakepositivecontributionstothecompanythefirstcoupleyearsIamthere,innovatingandimprovinginformationsystemstothecompany’sadvantage.Atsomepoint,IhopetotraveltoItalyforavacationsinceIhaveneverbeenoutoftheUnitedStatesandIthinkitwouldbeagreatopportunity.Attheendoffiveyears,Ihopetobeontheroadtoapromotioninmycompany;learning,improving,andcontributingalongtheway.
