3、-Huangtransformandconceptsfromvibratingsystemstheoryandcanbeusedtoapproximatethedynamicbehaviorofquasi-stationaryoscillations.Us-ingthenotionofempiricalmodedecomposition,datafromtransientstabilitysimulationsistransformedintoaseriesofmono-componentsignal

4、s.Anewanalyticalframeworkforcharacterizingandmodelingthenonlineartemporalevolutionoftheoscillationsispresentedandtechniquesforidentifyingthemodalcontentofthemostdominantmotioncomponentsaredeveloped.Analyticalexpressionsarethenobtainedthatprovideapproxim

5、atesolutionstotheinstantaneousfrequencyandamplitudeoftheoscillation,andaphysicalinterpretationofthemodelisprovided.Theefficiencyofthistechniqueforcapturingthetemporalevolutionofthemodalcontentofdatafromtransientstabilitysimulationsisassessed.Resultsdete

6、rminedfromthelow-ordermodelsarefoundtobeinqualitativeagreementwithdetailedsystemsimulations.INTRODUCTIONablepromisefortheanalysisoftemporalbehaviorofcriticalsystemmodes.Theanalysisandcharacterizationofnonlinear,non-stationaryinter-areaoscillationshasatt

7、ractedsignificantAnovelapplicationoftheHilbertHuangmethodwasattentioninrecentyears.TransientoscillationsmayresultrecentlyreportedbyMessinaetal.[4]whoappliedthetech-fromthelossofmajortransmissionandgenerationresourcesniquetocharacterizeinter-areaoscillat
