1、CHAPTER1INTRODUCTION1.0INTRODUCTIONTheresearcherhaschosentomakearesearchon“TheStudyofFactorsAffectingEmployeesMotivationsAmongTelekomMalaysia(TM)StaffInKotaBharu,Kelantan”.Theintroductiontopicsincludestheintroductionpart,thebackgroundofstudy,thebackgroundofcompa
2、ny,problemstatement,researchobjectives,reserachquestions,significanceofthisstudy,definitionoftermsandlimitationsofthisstudythatwillfacedbyresearcherwhenhandlingthisresearchsoon.Eachofthesechapterswillbeindetailwiththesubtopicswhichwilldiscusstheessentialprocedur
3、esandstepsincompletingthisstudy.581.1BACKGROUNDOFSTUDYThisresearchisfocusedonthefactorsaffectingemployeesmotivationsamongTelekomMalaysia(TM)staffinKotaBharu,Kelantan.Thisresearchiscarriedout,asitisimportanttoidentifythecriticalfactorsthataffectingemployeesmotiva
4、tiontoworkinorganization.Forinstances,theresearchershouldknowwhatmotivateemployeesatTMKotaBharuandtheresearcheralsocanidentifywhatarethemostfactorsthatcontributetothisresearch.EmployeesmotivationisdefinedasMotivationis“aprocesswhichstartsorimprovesorganizational
5、behaviors,encouragesanongoingactivityanddirectsactivitiestowardsspecifictargets”(Madsen,p.46).AccordingtoRobbins(2001),motivationistheprocessesthataccountforanindividual’sintensity,direction,andpersistenceofefforttowardattainingagoal(Robbins,p.156).Needtheoriesf
6、allintothecontentbrackettheypredominantlyhighlightvariableswhicharethoughttomotivateanindividual.MotivationtheoriesinthiscategoryincludeMaslow's(1943)theoryofhierarchyandMcLelland&Burnham(1976)achievementtheory.Herzberg's(1968)two-factortheoryisofparticularinter
7、esttothisresearchbecausehewastheonlyauthortoclassifyvariablesaseitherincreasingmotivationordecreasingdemotivation.AccordingtoLatham&Locke(1992)whichproposesthatprovidingemployeeswithagoalisthekeytonotonlyincreasedmotivationbutalsocontrollingbehaviour.Goalsetting
8、isafeatureofthemanagementtheoryof58empowermentwhichsuggeststhatparticipationingoalsetting,decisionmaking,problemsolvingandchangeproducespsychological'ownership'.Shari
