5、thChinaSea(SCS)summermonsoon,thusimprovingthemonsoonpredictioninSoutheastandEastAsianregions.ThefieldexperimentcarriedoutinMay-August1998wasfullysuccessful,withalargeamountofmeteorologicalandoceanographicdataacquiredthathavebeenusedinfourdimensionaldata
6、assimilationsbyseveralcountries,inordertoimprovetheirnumericalsimulationsandprediction.Thesedatasetsarealsowidelyusedinthefollow-upSCSandEastAsianmonsoonstudy.ThepresentpaperhassummarizedthemainresearchresultsobtainedbyChinesemeteorologistswhichcoversix
7、aspects:(1)onsetprocessesandmechanismoftheSCSsummermonsoon;(2)developmentofconvectionandmesoscaleconvectivesystems(MCSs1duringtheonsetphaseandtheirinteractionwithlarge-scalecirculation;(3)low-frequencyoscillationandteleconnectioneffect;(4)measurementsof
8、surfacefluxesovertheSCSandtheirrelationshipwiththemonsoonacti,,ity;(51oceanicthermodynamicstructures,circulation.andmesoscaleeddiesintheSCSduringthesumInermonsoonandtheirrelationshipwithENSOevents;and(61numericalsimulationsoftheS
