3、lubnews)as“local”news,becauseanyeventintheinternationalareahasalocalreactioninmanpowerdraft,ineconomicstrain,interms,indeed,ofourverywayoflife. Thereisinjournalismawidespreadviewthatwhenyouembarkoninterpretation,youareenteringchoppyanddangerouswaters,theswi
4、rlingtidesofopinion.Thisisnonsense. Theopponentsofinterpretationinsistthatthewriterandtheeditorshallconfinehimselftothe“facts”.Thisinsistenceraisestwoquestions:Whatarethefacts?And:Arethebarefactsenough? Astothefirstquery.Considerhowaso-called“factual”story
5、conesabout.Thereportercollects,say,fiftyfacts;outofthesefifty,hisspaceallotmentbeingnecessarilyrestricted,heselectstheten,whichheconsidersmostimportant.ThisisJudgmentNumberOne.Thenheorhiseditordecideswhichofthesetenfactsshallconstitutetheleadofthepiece(Thisi
