3、evalidityofteststotasksperformedineverydayenvironments.Ecologicallyvalidtestsofwayfindingwouldallowneuropsychologiststoaddresspatients'abilitytonavigatetheirenvironmentfollowingbraininjury.However,tasksofwayfinding-relatedabilities(e.g.,learning,memory,visualandspatia
4、lperception,mapreading,mentalvisualization,andspatialproblemsolving)haveonlyanuncertainrelationshiptohowwellapersonwillnavigatearoute(Kirasic,1988;Sonnenfeld,1985).Thisstudyinvestigatedtheecologicvalidityofseveralknownandnovelneuropsychologicalmeasuresofwayfinding-rel
5、atedskill.Thirty-oneunilateralstrokepar-ticipants(16leftand15righthemisphere)completedabatteryoftestscomposedofclinicaltasks(e.g.,traditionalpaperandpencilmeasuresofvisualization,mentalrotation,andvisualmemory),ecologicsimulationsofenvironmentaltasks(e.g.,spatialprobl
6、emsolvinginamodeltown,invitrorouterecall)andenvironmentspecifictasks(e.g.,Euclideandirectionfinding,invivorouterecall).Thegroupswereequivalentintermsofage,sex,education,handedness,andweekssincestroke.Noveltaskswerefoundtohavefairlygoodinternalconsistency(alpha=0.80-0.
7、83).Clinicalmeasureswerenotfoundtobepositivelyrelatedtoenvironmentspecifictasks(p>.05).Incontrast,significantrelationshipswerefoundbetweenecologicsimulationtasksandtheenvironmentspecificrouterecalltask(p<.01).Resultsareconsistentwithliteraturepurportingthatexistingcli
8、nicalmeasuresofwayfinding-relatedskillslackecologicvalidityandsuggestthatecologicsimulationsofenvironmentaltasksarebetterpre
