3、ntofnewantibioticsislimited,andpathogenscontinuallygeneratenewantibioticresistance.Manyresearchersaimtoidentifystrategiestoeffectivelykillthisdrug-resistantpathogen.Here,weevaluatedtheeffectoftheantimicrobialpeptidenisinontheantibacterialactivitiesof18antibioticsagainstE.faecalis.
4、TheMICandMBCresultsshowedthattheantibacterialactivitiesof18antibioticsagainstE.faecalisOG1RF,ATCC29212,andstrainEweresignificantlyimprovedinthepresenceof200U/mlnisin.Statisticallysignificantdifferenceswereobservedbetweentheresultswithandwithout200U/mlnisinatthesameconcentrationsof
5、penicillinorchloramphenicol(p,0.05).ThecheckerboardassayshowedthatthecombinationofnisinandpenicillinorchloramphenicolhadasynergeticeffectagainstthethreetestedE.faecalisstrains.ThetransmissionelectronmicroscopeimagesshowedthatE.faecaliswasnotobviouslydestroyedbypenicillinorchloramp
6、henicolalonebutwasseverelydisruptedbyeitherantibioticincombinationwithnisin.Furthermore,assessingbiofilmsbyaconfocallaserscanningmicroscopeshowedthatpenicillin,ciprofloxacin,andchloramphenicolallshowedstrongerantibiofilmactionsincombinationwithnisinthanwhentheseantibioticswereadmi
