2、mp,andAnnEKearnsABSTRACT:Tobetterdefinetherelationshipbetweenvascularcalcificationandbonemass/structure,weassessedabdominalaorticcalcification(AAC),BMD,andbonemicrostructureinanage-stratified,randomsampleof693Rochester,MN,residents.ParticipantsunderwentQCTofthespineandhipandhigh-resolutionpQCT(HR
3、pQCT)oftheradiustodefinevolumetricBMD(vBMD)andmicrostructuralparameters.AACwasquantifiedwiththeAgatstonscoringmethod.Inmen,AACcorrelatedwithlowervertebraltrabecularandfemoralneckvBMD(p<0.001),butnotafterageormultivariable(age,bodymassindex,smokingstatus)adjustment.Separationinto<50and50yrshowedt
4、hispatternonlyintheoldermen.BV/TVandTb.ThinverselycorrelatedwithAACinallmen(p<0.001),andTb.Thremainedsignificantlycorrelatedafterageadjustment(p<0.05).Tb.NpositivelycorrelatedwithAACinyoungermen(p<0.001)butnegativelycorrelatedinoldermen(p<0.001).TheoppositewastruewithTb.Sp(p0.01andp<0.001,respec
5、tively).LowerTb.NandhigherTb.SpcorrelatedwithAACinoldermenevenaftermultivariableadjustment.Amongallwomenandpostmenopausalwomen,AACcorrelatedwithlowervertebralandfemoralneckvBMD(p<0.001)butnotafteradjustment.LowerBV/TVandTb.ThcorrelatedwithAAC(p0.03andp0.04,respectively)inwomen,butnotafteradjust
