3、agendaofresearchandpolicyadvicemustbeex-tendedtoincludethelarger-framedandlonger-termenvironmentalchangeissues.Thisbookidentifiesthenatureandscopeoftheproblem,andexploresthecon-ceptualandmethodologicalapproachestostudyingtheserelationships,modellingtheirfuturerealization,providin
4、gestimatesofhealthimpactsandcommunicatingtheattendantuncertainties.Thistimelyvolumewillbeofgreatinteresttohealthscientistsandgraduatestudentsconcernedwiththehealtheffectsofglobalenvironmentalchange.PimMartensholdsdegreesinBiologicalandEnvironmentalHealthSciencesfromMaastrichtUni
5、versity,TheNetherlands.HeworkedwithintheprojectGlobalDynamicsandSustainableDevelopment,launchedin1992bytheDutchNationalInstituteofPublicHealthandtheEnvironment(RIVM).AfterobtaininghisPhDfromtheDepartmentofMathematics,MaastrichtUniversity,heworkedasassis-tantprofessoratthesameDep
6、artment.Since1998,PimMartenshasbeenaseniorresearcherattheUniversity’sInternationalCentreforIntegrativeStudies,wherehedirectstheGlobalAssessmentCentre.Heiseditor-in-chiefoftheinternationaljournalGlobalChangeandHumanHealth.Furthermore,hewasamemberoftheAssessmentStudy‘Climate,Ecosy
