4、eofsedimentpHandredoxconditionsontheoxidationofligniteandsedimentorganiccarbonwasstudiedusingaseriesoflaboratorymicrocosms.Theexperimentwasconductedover450dinreducingsedimentsuspensionsmain-tainedatfourredoxpotentials(170,0,+350and+500mV)andtwopHvalues(3.2and5.3).Carbonandlignitemin-1413eralizatio
5、nweredeterminedovertimeusingCanalysis,DOCcarbonproduction,solidstateCNMR(nuclearmagneticresonancespectroscopy)andpyrolysis–gaschromatography/massspectrometry(GC/MS).Morethan50%ofmeasuredcarbonmineralizationoccurredduringthefirst200d.Maximummineralizationoccurredunderthemoreoxidizingcon-ditions.Theam
6、ountofCO2producedwasgreateratpH5.3thanatpH3.2,indicatingthatlowpHreducesorganicmatter14mineralizationregardlessofsedimentredoxpotential.TheCanalysisshowedthatlignitecarbonwasmineralizedateachredoxpotentiallevel.Underthelowestredoxlevel(170mV)mineralizationwasminimalascomparedtotheotherredox13level
