2、evision,inFindividualswhogenerallylackfirsthandexperiencecinema,inmusic,andinproductsoftheprintmedia,aswithdeath,thephenomenonofdeathanddyinghaswellasinrecreationalattractions,games,andjokes.becomeabstractandinvisible.Americans,likemembersofAdditionally,I
3、explorethesocialimportofthepresenceofmanyothersocieties,attachfearfulmeaningstodeath,thesethanatologicalthemesinpopularculture.dying,andthedead(LemingandDickinson2002).Moreover,itishasfrequentlybeensuggestedthattheUnitedStateshasbecomea“death-denying”cult
4、ure.ATELEVISIONnumberofscholarshavedocumentedthevariouswaysinwhichAmericansattempttodenydeath(e.g.,DeSpelderNearlyeveryAmericanhouseholdhasatleastonetele-andStrickland2002;LemingandDickinson,2002;visionset,andalargepercentagehaveseveral.DeathandMannino199
5、7;OaksandEzell1993;UmbersonanddyingarebroughtdirectlyintohomesviathemediumofHenderson1992).Forexample,wehaveasocietaltabootelevision.AccordingtoDeSpelderandStrickland(2002),againstfrankdiscussionsaboutdeathanddying.WheninanaverageissueofTVGuide,approximat
