2、shipsberepairedafterbeingdamaged?Thereisasmallbutgrowingbodyofworkonthetopicfromanumberofdifferentdisciplinaryperspectivesusingdifferenttheoreticallensesandatdifferentlevelsofanalysis.Webeginbyexaminingtheexistingstreamsofworkonrelationshiprepairandorganizingthemintoaconceptualfram
3、ework.Wethenconsiderfourquestionsthatprobeassumptionsoroverlookedissuesinexistingresearchwiththeintentofmovingtowardamorecomprehensiveconceptualfoundation.Howcanrelationshipsberepairedafterbeingportedthatoverhalfoftheirrespondentsfeltdamaged?Thequestionisnotnew,butithasthattheircon
4、tractualrelationshipwiththeirem-beenmadeincreasinglysalientinrecentyearsployerhadbeenviolated,whileConwayandwithreportsoforganizationsdamagingrela-Briner(2002)suggestedanevenhigherpercent-tionshipswithemployees,shareholders,and/orageofviolations.Researchersalsohaveob-customers,andw
5、ithevenonce-veneratedinsti-servedthatevencloserelationshipsinvolvetutionsinvolvedinsituationscausingconstitu-negativeeventsandconflictandthattheresil-entstoquestiontheirtrustintheinstitutionandienceofrelationshipsiscontingentonhowtheirrelationshipwithit(e.g.,religiousinstitu-thosee
6、ventsareresolved(Driver,Tabares,Sha-tions,mediacompanies,governments).Notbypiro,Nahm,&Gottman,2003).coincidence,recentsurveyresultshaveindi-Thephenomenonofdamagedrelationshipshascatedthatworldwidetrustincompaniesandclearlybeenofinteresttoorganizationalresearch-governmentsisnearalow
7、point(WorldEco-ers.Forexample,organizationalresearchershavenomicForum,2005)andthatintheUnitedStatesstudiedtrustviolationsandthedynamicsofdis-overhalfofemployeesdonottrusttheleadersoftrustwithinandbetweenorganizations(e.g.,theirorganization(e.g.,MercerHumanResourceElangovan&Shapiro,
