2、euniquephysical,mental,abstractbehavioral,developmental,communication,therapeutic,andsocialneedsthatmustbeaddressedandmetinallaspectsofdisasterpreparedness,response,andrecovery.Pediatricians,includingprimarycarepediatricians,pediatricmedicalsubspecialists,andpediatricsu
3、rgicalspecialists,havekeyrolestoplayinpreparingandtreatingfamiliesincasesofdisasters.Pediatriciansshouldattendtothecontinuityofpracticeoperationstoprovideservicesintimeofneedandstayabreastofdisasterandpublichealthdevelopmentstobeactiveparticipantsincommunityplanningeffo
4、rts.Federal,state,tribal,local,andregionalinstitutionsandagenciesthatservechildrenshouldcollaboratewithpediatricianstoensurethehealthandwell-beingofchildrenindisasters.Althoughdisastershavelongcauseddestructionandsuffering,eventssuchasthe9/11terroristattacks,the2004Indi
5、anOceantsunami,HurricaneKatrinain2005,the2009H1N1influenzapandemic,the2010Haitiearthquake,SuperstormSandyin2012,the2014Ebolaepidemic,andothersshowhowcitizensandresponderscontinuetobesurprisedbythecharacterandscopeofsuchincidents.Whatalldisastershaveincommonandwhatsetsthe
6、mapartfromotheremergenciesaretheirprecipitousnatureandoverwhelmingeffectsonacommunity’sresponsesystem.Disastersareunpredictableandgenerallycannotbepreventedfromoccurring.Nevertheless,pediatriciansandothersinvolvedinthecareandwell-beingofchildrencanprepareforandmitigatet
7、heireffects,ThisdocumentiscopyrightedandispropertyoftheAmericanencouragepreparednessandresiliencyamongchildrenandfamiliesandAcademyofPediatricsanditsBoardofDirectors.AllauthorshavefiledconflictofintereststatementswiththeAmericanAcademyofwithincommunities,andensurethatchil
